Despite the diversity of acrylic baths, pig-iron bowls do not lose their popularity. This is primarily due to the reliability and strength of the structure, as well as at least 30 years of service.
We passed those times when cast-iron fonts were a low and rather bulky externally design of an exceptionally rectangular shape of standard sizes. Today, you can meet several options on the market, from the point of view of the form, the execution of cast iron baths, as well as models of various sizes.
As part of cast iron baths of iron compound with carbon, which provides increased product strength and its resistance to mechanical and vibration loads. Carbon is usually represented by cement or graphite. The latter may have a spherical shape, and therefore the product is characterized by greater strength.
Cast iron bath has many advantages.
- wear resistance – such a bath is not deformed during operation and even with elevated mechanical loads;
- Due to the increased strength of the product, it is suitable for use at the same time multiple users, as well as optimally for people with high weight;
- The heat transfer of cast iron is minimal, so water-typed to such a bath is cooled long and unnoticed for the user, it is important that the walls of the tank are not heated;
- resistance to temperature differences;
- Easy care, the ability to clean the bath with any cleaning means;
- Antibacterial characteristics and self-cleaning ability due to the presence of an enamel coating that is devoid of.
Among the disadvantages of baths from the cast iron usually celebrate a large weight of the product: 100-120 kg for a bath size of 150×70 cm, and import models usually 15-20 kg lighter than Russian analogues. Today’s models are much easier than their Soviet prototypes, since they have thinner, but no less durable walls. However, the cast iron bath in any case will be heavier than acrylic. However, this disadvantage is important only during transportation and installation of the bowl, the large weight of the bath does not affect the further operation.
Despite the advantages of enamel coating, it has a significant “minus” – is pretty slippery. To improve the safety of the product, it is recommended to use a rubber rug.
Production process of pig-iron fobs is characterized by consideration and complexity, What causes her higher cost. However, this “minus” is leveled by long (on average up to 30 years) period of exploitation and unpretentious care.
The complexity of the casting casting process was due to another disadvantage of the design – the internal space of the bowl is difficult to give a shape, an anatomically repeating shape of the human body.
Installation of the device does not differ from the methods of installing a bath of another kind.
Forms and species
Cast iron – a material that is not distinguished by plasticity, and therefore there is no longer a variety of forms from such products. However, if you are looking for a classic rectangular design, you will not be limited in choosing. It is this form, that is, its modification with rounded edges is the most sought-after.
The cast iron font of the oval shape is made by hand, What contributes to the increase in the cost of the product. However, it looks exquisitely and respectable, usually separately standing, equipped with legs. The most ergonomic is the triangular shape of the bowl, because it is mounted in the corner of the room. In this case, its weight can reach 150-170 kg, so it is not suitable for all types of building.
As for the sizes, manufacturers offer both compact so-called seating baths and more overall bowls.
The depth of the bath is determined by the distance from the bottom of the bowl to its overflow hole. As a rule, deeper fonts are produced by domestic brands, this indicator is 40-46 cm. As practice shows, such bowls turn out to be more convenient compared to imported analogs, the depth of which ranges from 35-39 cm.
Depending on the method of installing the bath, it can be:
- Wounded – the bowl is installed along one of the walls of the room, it usually has a rectangular shape;
- Corner – installed in the corner of the room between two perpendicular walls, usually such a bowl has a triangle shape or a quarter of a circle, suitable for small rooms;
- separately standing – it is installed at a distance from the walls or in the middle of the bathroom, it is performed in the form of a rectangle, an oval or circle;
- embeddable – suggests the installation of the bowl in the podium, its side is only a few centimeters towers above the pedestal level.
The outer walls of the wall and angular models are usually closed with panels, and separately standing models have, as a rule, decoratively decorated outer walls. It looks, of course, beautiful, but the owner requires care not only for internal, but also outside the walls.
For ease of use, designs can be equipped with handles, rubberized areas. The use of such baths will appreciate the elderly and disabled.
Today, almost all baths, regardless of the manufacturing material, can be equipped with a hydromassage system. It is nozzles and other elements that provide soft massage with air and water-air jets drowning under pressure. Cast iron, along with artificial stone, is the optimal material for the Bowl with hydromassage. Due to the high density and strength of the material, it does not vibrate, which makes the use of the functions of the jacuzzi more comfortable.
Pig-iron bath can have a classic white version or have colored coating. This is beige and bluish bowls that are suitable for any type of interior. The outer part of the device can have a wider color palette. Preference should be given to models covered with powder dye.
Color surface will be homogeneous and continued throughout the term of use of the device.
Standards of Gabarites
Cast iron baths are quite varied. Undoubtedly, one of the most convenient models is the bowl of 180×80 cm. In it, even a high adult can comfortably lie down, stretching the legs. However, it will fit not every bathroom apartment building. It is important that the bath has the chosen width “passed” through the doorway of the bathroom.
However, if we tilt its bowl, then the width of the cargo will decrease by 40-50 cm.
GOST approved the following dimensions of standard cast iron baths. Their length can be 150, 160 or 170 cm, width – 70 or 75 cm, depth – at least 40 cm (relevant only for domestic products).
According to the standard bath classification, taking into account their dimensions, cast iron bowls can several species.
As a rule, their size begins from 120×70 or 130×70 cm, although in the collection of some manufacturers you can find bowls 100×70 cm. They are optimal for small-sized premises, but they can only use them in the half-sidewal position. Construction weight – about 100 kg. As a rule, it is not so convenient to wash in small bowls, but this deficiency can be done less noticeable if the bowl has a high back. By the way, such a model looks incredibly stylish and authentic.
Such designs have 140×70 or 150×70 cm sizes and can fit in the bathroom of most standard apartment buildings. Their weight is 130-135 kg. The most “running” standard (or average in size) are bowls 150×60 cm, 150×70 cm and 150×75 cm, as well as more compact bowl 145×70 cm.
Such bowls exceed the standard in size. Their length ranges in the range of 170 – 180 cm, standard width from 70 to 80 cm (that is, the dimensions of the bowl of 170×80 and 180×70 cm). There are also “intermediate” options, the dimensions of which are 170×75 and 180×75 cm, respectively. Their weight is 150 kg or more, so such a bowl is mounted only on concrete floors.
Also large are the Baths of 170×70, 170×75, 175×70, 170×75, 175×75, 175×80, 170×85 and 180×75 cm.
More overall models (for example, 190×80 cm) are randomly found, which is associated with low demand for them.
It is not just that the approximate weight of cast-iron baths is given – it directly depends on the size of the bowl. At the same time, in the process of operation, the weight of the bowl with water and man can reach 500 kg. Such a load is not intended for houses with wooden or dilapidated overlap. In other words, choosing the size of the bath, you should navigate not only on the parameters of the room and personal preferences, but to take into account the load on the overlaps.
As a rule, each manufacturer has its own dimensional grid. So, the Chinese brand Aqualux standard considers the bowl of 150×70 cm, and the Italian producer Roca – the bath size of 160×70 cm.
Corner structures usually have a side length of 120-170 cm (domestic brands) and 100-110 cm (import models). The most convenient is the equilateral bath with the length of the side 140 – 150 cm. Asymmetric models can have different sizes (160×70, 160×75, 170×100 cm – indicated the parameters of the longest and wide parties). Sometimes the dimensions of the asymmetric angular models can correspond to the dimensions of standard baths (for example, 150×75), but due to the incorrect form they look at the volume.
That is why when choosing asymmetric models it is more correct to navigate the volume of the bowl, and not only per dimensions.
Tips for use
Purchasing a cast-iron bath, it is necessary to calculate not only its length and width, but also the load on the overlap, which it will provide in the process of operation.
Choosing a font of the cast iron, appreciate the condition of its walls. They should not have roughness, dents, chips – all these signs of impairment of the production process, and therefore the bath will not last long. The wall thickness should be at least 5 mm, the edges must have good processing (to be smooth, without “burrs”). The thickness of the enamel coating on the bottom of the bath should be at least 1.5 mm, on the walls and sideboards – at least 1 mm.
Cast iron bath is quite unpretentious in care. To save her attractiveness, rinse and wipe the bowl after each use. Ideally, enamel should wipe with a soft sponge, looked at her soap or pin to her detergent of dishes. It is important to wash off the soap layer.
It is unacceptable to put directly on the bottom of the metal buckets, Tazy. If such a need arose, laid between the bottom of the bowl and the bottom of the bucket. When washing pets, use special silicone linings and mats.
This will prevent formation on the surface of the enamel scratch and cracking bath.
Despite the strength of the structure, it is not necessary to throw objects into it, pour dirty water. In the latter case, the dirt particles will become a kind of abrasive, negatively affecting the state of the enamel.
It is unacceptable to use aggressive acids to purify the cast iron bowl. Of course, it will return her shine and whiteness, but not long. The use of acids leads to the appearance of microcracks on the enamelled surface. They will be clogged with dirt and with time the bath will become gray and dim.
