Very often both in everyday life and production requires means for gluing materials. Epoxy glue refers to the most used types of adhesives and has a lot of advantages. But as any means, epoxy glue has its own characteristics that affect the end result.


Before proceeding to gluing surfaces, it is necessary to deal with the composition of this glue, the principles of its action and the scope of application.

What is the epoxy glue? The answer to this question lies in the title of glue. Its base is epoxy resin, which is a type of synthetic resins and possessing universal consumer properties.

For curing resin, a certain temperature is required. For epoxy resin, it is in the range from -10 to +200 degrees. Temperature selection depends on the type of composition. Depending on which temperature, the reaction will occur, epoxy resins will be divided into cold and hot curing types. Cold species is used for non-heat treatment materials, and hot types are needed for materials withstanding not only high temperature, but also the impact of active chemicals.

Cold curing type is most often used to glue materials at home, and also applied in small industries. For large industrial enterprises, the most acceptable is a hot curing type. Aircraft, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Equipment, Radioelectronics, Shipbuilding and other industrial spheres use epoxy resins in the composition of adhesive.

In addition to epoxy resin, the glue includes a hardener, without it, the polymerization process is impossible. It is a hardener, enhancing a reaction with epoxy resin, helps her to frozen and not melted.

How to breed?

The proportionality of breeding depends on the specific manufacturer. In one case, the ratio can be 10: 4, in another – 10: 6, and in the third to achieve the desired consistency you need to dilute 4 parts of the hardener in 6 parts of the resin. The proportionality of dilution depends not only on the specific manufacturer, but also on the date of the resin and hardener, the conditions of storage, ambient temperature, and, of course, from the quality of both products.

Previously, in order not to make a mistake with the number of components added, manufacturers produced vials with marks, but today there are no division on vials, so the mixing of ingredients can be performed using different infrident agents.

For a small amount, you can use the old rod from the handle. Before use, it is thoroughly washed and applied to the surface of the mark at equal intervals.

You can measure the amount of component with the help of a more convenient tool – the syringe. In order to properly disperse epoxy, you need to prepare each component to be prepared for breeding. A measured variety of viscous resin is added to the container and mixed thoroughly. Sometimes epoxy resin is very hard, so it can be heated in a water bath to facilitate this process, 50-60 degrees are enough. But it is worth remembering that the increase in temperature not only makes it easier to stirring, but also speeds up the polymerization process – just just increase the temperature of the mixture to 10?C, and the reaction will accelerate 2-3 times.

After preparation, the components must be connected and stir in a clean capacity, but it is not very vigorous to do it, otherwise it is not to avoid the appearance of bubbles. Their presence in the glue can spoil the appearance of poured objects if the composition is used as fill.

For simple gluing surfaces, the number of bubbles does not matter. If dyes are added to the composition, it is better to use them in a dry form, since moisture even in the minimum number adversely affects the adhesive composition.

The prepared composition is distinguished by liquid consistency during the first minutes, but after 10-15 minutes it begins to quickly thick, and after 30 minutes it hardens. To extend the time of working with the composition, you can use this means as acetone – it will increase the validity of the adhesive to 1 hour. To do this, it is necessary to dissolve only 1 part of this substance in the composition with a proportion of 10: 1: 1.

For durable bonding materials, there are general rules for the preparation:

  • Mechanical cleansing of the surface of materials from pollution;
  • Degreasing the prepared places of gluing from oil trails, it will suit the solvent, acetone or detergent;
  • Surfaces having gloss are processed using sandpaper or grinding circle.

For simple gluing, the composition is applied to one of the parties, after which both surfaces are tightly pressed to each other. As fixtors, you can use a durable rope, visets, clamps or cargo. Appeated glue residues are removed with dry cloth or napkin. In a fixed position, glued materials should be at least 24 hours, while the primary polymerization process goes, after which the auxiliary fasteners are removed, and the gluing product is left for complete drying for 7 days.

When using special forms of fillings, they are prepared otherwise. Bottom and sidewalls are treated with fats. After lubrication, the finished composition is poured into the form and withstands it to a complete curing. To increase the rates of polymerization after a 3-hour shape exposure at room temperature, it is sent to heating to the hot wardrobe. If the form is not subjected to heat, then the process of complete curing can take up to 7 days.

When preparing the composition, it is better to use dishes and auxiliary instruments, unnecessary for future use. Excess them from such a composition is almost impossible, so all the tanks used and the tools for mixing will go to the emission.

Filling in shape must be carried out in stages, especially if it is planned to make a layer thickness more than 2 mm. After the polymerization of the first coating, the following portion is filled only after curing the layer, but with a sticky surface.
