How to choose facade paint for outdoor work?

There is not one option to reflect the facade of the building. To give it a beautiful view, ventilated facade panels, siding, covered with natural or artificial stone and plaster. Plastering – a common option for the outdoor part of the building due to its low cost. But with all this, such a house will not look quite bright and effectively and will not have a finished look. Special facade paints will be helped to solve this problem.

Varieties

The modern paint market is represented by a huge assortment, there was a place here and for facade. The most common are color mixtures such as acrylic, silicate, silicone, latex and textured.

Acrylic mixture – the most popular and inexpensive option for painting walls outside. Interacts almost with all the materials from which the building can be erected. After drying, creates a solid protective film that serves as protection against environmental impacts. Does not fade, resistant to abrasion and does not form cracks. Such paints are not suitable for wall covering of limestone plaster and sandstone.

Silicate paint will be suitable for such surfaces. It is based on silicate glue, to which mineral pigments and fillers are added. The life of this type of glue is 25 years. It has waterproof and gives a reliable clutch with a material that is applied. Resistant to any atmospheric influences. This mixture is suitable for use on concrete and brick. Its weak side is that it is susceptible to mechanical effects and is not elastic enough, so after drying it can crack.

Silicone paints are considered one of the best for staining plastered facades. According to its characteristics in terms of elasticity, resistance to mechanical damage and prices, they lag behind acrylic compositions, and that is why they did not receive such widespread use. After applying this type of paint, the plastered surface does not absorb moisture, but has a high level of vapor permeability and worn to temperature drops. After drying, the coating can repel dust and is not exposed to sunlight.

Latex or water dispersion mixtures are made on the basis of polymer components. The combination of latex and acrylic made it possible to increase the operational capacity of the compositions and increase their scope. They can be used in external and interior decoration, but before applying the surface should be pretty projected to avoid the further appearance of fungi and mold. This composition can be painted any types of surfaces. It does not have a sharp smell, environmentally friendly, can pass the air and fireproof. Water-emulsion paints can be breeded with water. They will quickly dry and resistant to moisture. The only disadvantage is that there is no possibility to compose them in bright and saturated colors.

Textual or structural coloring compositions are suitable for creating decorative coatings not only on facades, but also on other elements of buildings. They do not require careful surface preparation and can be applied to cracks and chips on the corners. As part of the paints there are special plasticizers that help to create a unique protruding drawing. The composition has high frost resistance, resistant to ultraviolet rays, insensitive to dampness, has dust and dirt-repellent properties. Not cracks due to high plasticity. You can apply it on any surface – both on the brick and on the wooden.

In addition to those listed, there are still cement and cement-limestone mixtures, but due to some flaws in production, they are little in demand, since they have bad moisture permeability, simple color gamut and insufficient bactericidal protection. After applying, fungi and mold often appear.

Advantages of use

The main plus of staining of plaster outside is that the paint enhances its strength and gives the finished type of facade. It delays dampness, the walls are less watered and deteriorated. Prevents different microorganisms to the surface of plaster, and hence the service life of the building increases. Due to the fact that the paint is hygroscopic, the walls do not accumulate condensate, which is formed from the difference in the internal and outdoor temperature regime. Paint is poorly susceptible to different kind of atmospheric influences.

How to choose?

To get a thorough and beautiful coating that will serve at least 10 years, it is necessary to approach the choice of paint. Many do not know how to properly approach the solution of this issue.

The first thing to pay attention is the type of surface, which must be painted. For each material there is a certain paint endowed with characteristic properties. For a brick facade, the painting composition for mineral surface is suitable. The painting composition of concrete is characterized by a large porosity and alkaline environment strength. It consists of acrylicicone and water dispersion elements. Not easy to pick up paint for wood. Such a surface will absorb most of all the dampness, quickly rotates and easily flammifies. For plastered facades, a vapor-permeable and moisture-resistant painting composition is suitable.

No need to chase for cheap.

Inexpensive paint is not endowed with those properties that are able to reliably protect the house. Before purchasing, be sure to read what is written on the package and check the shelf life.

The overdue paint will have a low quality, so you will not receive the required protection.

Do not forget that before starting work, the surface needs careful cleaning and primer. Be sure to pay attention to the compatibility of purchased paint and primer. Calculate the flow per 1 m2.

The coloring composition must certainly have the following indicators:

  • Through resistance to mechanical damage.
  • Protect from direct sunlight.
  • Eliminate the development of microorganisms, fungi and mold.
  • Withstand the effects of chemicals.
  • Foreign safety.
  • Sufficient elasticity preventing cracking.

Separate compositions also have an antistatic effect. Such paints must be used on the facades located at the roads.

Focus on choosing glossy and matte paints. Glossy attract expressive color and pour with sunlight. But they are designed to apply to perfectly smooth surfaces and are able to allocate all defects on them. Matte paints on the contrary, hide flaws.

An important aspect when choosing paint is a manufacturer. Among today’s abundance is easy to “get lost” and get confused in brands. The leading places in the ranking are occupying companies such as German Alpina and Cerezit, Finnish Tikkurila and English Dulux. Products of these companies rightfully deserve the confidence of many buyers and enjoys in high demand among consumers.

Preparation for application

Painting works on painting facade is preferable to spend in spring or postpone this process to autumn. Temperature regime at this time is in a stable state and solar activity is low.

Preparatory work pass in several stages. To begin with, estimate the condition of the surface. If the plaster or paint on the base is old and start cracking and crushing, then you need to remove them and shook the wall again. If the surface is in properly, then catching up on it lightly with a hammer in search of weak points. If these are discovered, these fragments are removed and closed. Then they apply the primer of deep impregnation twice and give it a prey to dry. If necessary, protection can be additionally applied antifungal or antibacterial agents.

Be sure to calculate the desired amount of material. For this, the area is calculated to be painted. The resulting number is multiplied by the average flow rate (it is specified on each container) for the first and then for the second layer. Almost all facade paints are applied in several layers.

And finally, you must certainly prepare the necessary infirm materials. In the process of painting, forests or a staircase, roller, brush, paint and a container under it, a mixer and drill, gloves and glasses.

Facade paints are the best way to improve your home and give it a finished and magnificent appearance. And the range of modern coatings is so rich, which will make a choice for every taste and wallet.
