Its properties are convenient for construction purposes and in the formation of furniture products. - high overall stove strength;
- increase its resistance to dynamic mechanical load;
- increasing resistance also in relation to static loads;
- The optimal level of durability in normal operating conditions.
But it is necessary to take into account the difference between individual versions, which will be discussed. Now it is important to characterize the standard sizes of the OSB. This may arise certain misunderstandings, because even in the Russian Federation is often used by the manufacturers imported standard EN 300: 2006. But not everything is so bad – the norms of the European act were taken into account and even taken as a basis for the formation of the most fresh domestic standard of 2014. Finally, there is another branch of standards, this time adopted in North America.
Before refining the parameters and properties of the plate, their compliance with the standard, you need to additionally find out which specifically the standard is applied. In the EU countries and the Russian-oriented Russian industry, it is customary to produce an OSB list of 2500×1250 mm. But North American manufacturers, as often happens, “go their own way” – they have a typical format 1220×2440.
Of course, the factories are focused on the requirements of the customer. It may well be released material with non-standard dimensions.
Quite often, models with a length of 3000 and even 3150 mm come to the market. But this is not the limit – the most common modern technological lines without additional upgrades provide the production of plates up to 7000 mm long. It is such a product that is the largest on which you can apply in a general order. Therefore, problems with the selection of products of a particular value do not occur. The only nuance is the width almost never varies, for this it would have to excessively expand technological lines.
Much depends on a specific firm. So, a solution of 2800×1250 size can meet (Kronospan). However, most manufacturers still make a product with unified parameters. Typical OSB thick 12 mm thick (regardless of dimensional standards) withstands the load of 0.23 kN, or in more accessible units, 23 kg. This refers to OSB-3 products.
The next important parameter is the weight of such oriented plates.
With a value of 2.44×1.22 m, the mass of such a product will be 23.2 kg. If the envelope is decorated on the European standard, the severity of the product will grow to 24.4 kg. Since in a pack in both cases contains 64 sheets, then knowing how much one element weighs, it is not difficult to calculate that the bundle of American plates weighs 1485 kg, and European bundle – 1560 kg. Other technical parameters are as follows:
- density – from 640 to 700 kg per 1 m3 (sometimes it is believed that from 600 to 700 kg);
- The swelling index is 10-22% (the measurement is carried out by soaking by 24 hours);
- Excellent perception of paint materials and adhesive mixtures;
- fire protection at the level is no worse than g4 (without additional processing);
- the ability to hold the nails and screws firmly;
- Bending strength in different planes – 20 or 10 Newton per 1 kV. m;
- suitability for a variety of types of treatment (including drilling and cutting);
- thermal conductivity – 0.15 W / MK.
Scope of application
Areas in which OSB is used is quite wide. They largely depend on the category of material. OSB-2 – relatively durable product. However, when contacting moisture, such products will be damaged and quickly lose the basic qualities. The output is extremely simple: similar products are necessary for the interior decoration of rooms having typical parameters of humidity.
Much more and slightly stable OSB-3. Such material can be used where humidity is increased, but fully regulated. Part of the manufacturers believe that with the help of OSB-3, it is possible to persuade even the facades of buildings. And this is true – you will only have to thoroughly think over the necessary protection measures. Most often for such a goal, special impregnations use or apply protective paint.
But even better apply OSB-4. Similar material is most durable. He is also racks to water exposure. And additionally do not need any reinforced protection. However, OSB-4 is more expensive and therefore used quite rarely.
Oriented plates have excellent sound absorbing characteristics. OSB-stove can be used:
- for the cover of the facade;
- in the process of alignment of walls inside the house;
- for alignment of floors and ceilings;
- as a reference surface;
- as a support for lag;
- as a base for plastic cladding;
- for the formation of a foreign beam;
- when preparing collapsible formwork;
- as packaging material for the transport of small cargo;

- in the process of furniture production;
- To cover floors in truck bodies.
Tips for mounting
Self-pressing length for installation of OSP is calculated extremely simple. 12 mm sheet thickness required to add 40-45 mm on the so-called entrance entrance. Close seams can be closed with putty. To save, prepare the mixture yourself, applying chip and plow glue.
Inside houses will have to work a little different. There are either a tree crate or a metal profile. Metal is much more reliable and more attractive. For closing voids, the boards of a small value are used. The distance separating the rack is equal to a maximum of 600 mm; as when working on the facade, they use selflessness.
For the final coating apply:
- Colored varnish;
- clear nail polish;
- decorative plaster;
- Wallpaper on a fliesline basis;
