Gommage, or, as it is often called, peel-skating – a special kind of means for deep skin cleansing. Just like a scrub, its main function is to remove dead skin cells, cleanse pores, and prepare for the use of active care products. But unlike a scrub, a gommage has no active abrasive particles, which means it acts more delicately. The classic gommage is applied to the skin, it is usually kept on the skin from 5 to 20 minutes depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations and is rolled off with fingers (hence the Russian name – skatka) together with sebum and dead skin particles, which should be removed.
To understand the difference between a gommage and a scrub, here is the table:
Scrub | Gommage | |
Composition | There are abrasive particles that “scrape” off the top layer of skin | The exfoliating effect is mainly due to chemical action: enzymes or acids. If these components are not in the composition, the exfoliation occurs due to the fact that the product forms a thin film, rolling which also removes the “grasped” particles of the epidermis, sebum, pollution. |
Method of Use | Apply on washed wet skin, massage for 3-5 minutes, rinse | Apply after cleansing skin with a towel dry, leave for 5-20 minutes, roll it in with your fingers and wipe your face with a tonic |
Skin types best suited for | Young, firm, normal or oily skin, not prone to couperose, inflammation or irritation | Dry or dehydrated, age-deprived, thin, sensitive, couperose-prone |
In theory. In practice, however, the line between a gommage and a scrub is getting blurred more and more, mostly thanks to cosmetics producers, who often refer to classic scrubs with abrasive particles as a gommage in order to emphasize their delicate effect on the skin. That is why, according to our rating, we have taken products with the word “gommage” in their names, disregarding their actual mode of action. In the end, it turned out that of the seven products, only one was a real, classic gommage.
It was a coincidence that this product topped the list.

Gommage Corps Cristaux Roses Coque D’argan Charme D’Orient
Rating: 4.8

This gommage is for the body. Its brand is Charme d’Orient, translated into Russian as
Allure of the Orient – specializes in luxury care.
A peeling effect caused by crushed argan-shells, so it would be slightly misleading to call it a “gommage. Actively nourishes the skin – argan and coconut oils are responsible for this, which, among other things, smooth fine wrinkles. Gently exfoliates, leaving skin smooth and soft.
Advantages
- natural oils;
- Actively nourishes the skin.
Flaws
- high price.

Rating: 4.8

This French product will please a girl who prefers natural formulas. The gommage is based on white clay, which absorbs sebum perfectly. Scrubbing particles are also natural, made of bamboo. There aren’t many, but girls with sensitive skin complain that the scrubbing particles are quite prickly. Lactic acid provides gentle exfoliation, jojoba oil nourishes, lavender and aloe extracts have anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Suitable for owners of normal and combination skin – dry and sensitive skin can scratch, and for oily too soft
Advantages
- natural composition;
- Cleanses and nourishes the skin well.
Disadvantages
- can scratch;
- too gentle for oily skin.
hytomer Purifyng Gommage Exfo
Rating: 4.4

This product contains 20 plant extracts and oils, including shea butter, linseed oil, rosehip oil, chamomile hydrolate, yellow water lily extract, hyssop, violet..
On the one hand, fans of natural cosmetics will enjoy it. In addition, such a variety of components will also provide a wide range of caring properties – from the traditional moisturizing and nourishing to anti-inflammatory effect.
On the other hand, such a list of plant components can give an unpleasant surprise to girls, prone to allergies – contrary to popular beliefs, the “natural” phytocompounds are much more allergenic than their “chemical”, that is separated and carefully purified analogs. Therefore, suffering from atopic dermatitis and simply prone to allergies, we would recommend using this product very carefully.
Advantages
- natural composition;
- reduces inflammation;
- copes well with excessive oiliness of the skin.
Disadvantages
- May not be suitable for allergic persons;
- Not suitable for sensitive skin and skin prone to couperose;
- Apricot stones, which act as abrasive particles can traumatize.
ORGANIC SHOP “Morning Coffee” facial cleanser
Rating: 4.2

Super economical product by domestic manufacturers. Soft scrub, which uses ground coffee as an abrasive component, the particles of which are quite large. Another scrubbing element is kondjak root powder, which not only gently removes dead particles, but also absorbs skin grease well. Enhances the exfoliating, “degreasing” and anti-inflammatory effects of salicylic acid. So for dry and aging skin, this active sebum removal may be excessive.
The product will appeal to fans of natural formulations: it contains white clay, the already mentioned coffee and konjac root, olive oil, macadamia oil, green coffee oil, lemongrass. It contains no parabens.
There are many enthusiastic reviews on the web of young girls with oily skin, but for mature women we would still advise against experimenting with this preparation: the hard scrubbing particles can traumatize sensitive age skin, and such active removal of sebum is usually not required.
Advantages
- natural composition;
- It copes well with excess sebum.
Disadvantages
- Not suitable for sensitive skin and skin prone to couperose;
- can dry you out;
- Increases the flaking of dehydrated skin.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we would like to remind you that neither gommage nor scrubs are recommended for girls with acne, as the massage spreads germs from inflammation sites. Even when using a mild gommage in this way can increase inflammation, not to mention the hard scrub, after which inevitably leave microscratches, where microorganisms multiply particularly actively. For deep cleansing of the skin with inflammatory elements the film masks or masks with acids are much better.
