*Editor’s review of the best. Selection criteria. This material is subjective, not an advertisement and is not intended as a guide to purchase. Consultation with a professional before purchasing.
This review, we decided to devote the electric toothbrushes, which not only firmly took its niche in the market of Russia and the CIS, but also gradually replacing the traditional manual toothbrushes because of their low efficiency.
For convenience, we have divided our review into 4 categories, each of which presents a different type of toothbrushes – basic (mechanical), sonic, ultrasonic and children’s. For each group we have selected 3 models, each of which has its own unique features and is considered the best in its product group. To make our review as varied as possible, we’ve chosen models from all price groups – from budget options for 500-1,000 rubles, to the premium toothbrushes at a price of about 20,000 rubles.
In addition to brand awareness, reliability and innovative technology, we took into account an important criterion – feedback from real users, who provided information on all the identified strengths and weaknesses of a particular model based on practical experience. This information we took from the official websites of manufacturers of toothbrushes, as well as from Yandex.Market, otziv- and other public sources of information.
How to choose an electric toothbrush
To choose the right electric toothbrush, you need to consider the following important points:
- How the device works.
- Hardness of the bristles of the working head.
- Availability of various additional options to help with oral care.
According to the principle of operation, electric brushes can be divided into three main groups – electromechanical, sonic and ultrasonic. Category 1 models have a movable head that reciprocates or rotates to clean plaque from the teeth.
Sonic brushes with vibration system, which allows the bristles to perform sweeping movements, effectively cleaning the interdental space.
The ultrasonic models are the most expensive, but also the most effective. They have no rotating head, but there is a special oscillator, which operates at a frequency of 1.6 million strokes per minute.6 MHz up to 9.6 million strokes per minute. It is in this range that the molecular bonds between bacteria break down and are quickly destroyed. It loosens plaque from the inside and removes it effectively.
The choice of hardness degree of bristles is quite an important parameter that affects the comfort of the user while brushing their teeth. While a manual toothbrush with the wrong hardness can cause minor bleeding of gums or ineffective brushing, you can imagine what can happen at 30,000-40,000 rpm of the working head.
There are several useful additional options to help you take better and better care of your mouth:
- A timer that tells you when to clean the next area.
- A gum pressure sensor that signals when pressure is exceeded, guaranteeing safe cleaning.
- Several modes of operation – from daily care, to whitening.
- Selectable brush intensity.
- Availability of interactive application on your smartphone, which will help you take better and gentler care of your mouth.
Children’s toothbrushes are a separate category and most of them are basic mechanical and acoustic models. The big differences are their gentler bristles, smaller brush head size and lower number of revolutions/vibrations. Plus, especially for kids and teens, these brushes stand out because of their colourful design, which often features characters from popular cartoons.
The right toothbrush will provide you with quality and comfortable oral care, as well as help prevent various dental diseases, including dental caries.

Best Ultrasonic Electric Toothbrush
We continue our review of ultrasonic toothbrushes. We have selected 3 best models from renowned Russian and foreign manufacturers. Given the rather specific product segment, only a few brands with their products have settled in there for a long time.
Each of the toothbrushes under consideration has its own unique design and functional features, which makes it the best in its price category.
Donfeel HSD-015
Rating: 4.7

Donfeel HSD-015 opens the category of the best ultrasonic toothbrushes. The toothbrush is produced by Russian company that produces goods for home and beauty since 2001. Model is made in a modern factory in China, where each unit goes through a multi-step quality control.
The model has 5 modes, including massage and whitening, which allows you to choose the optimal program for oral care. Built-in rechargeable battery that powers the brush for up to 6 weeks on a single charge.
It comes with 3 interchangeable nozzles with different levels of hardness, which allows you to choose the best option for cleaning your teeth and even dentures.
The key difference between this model and most competitors is the built-in UV sterilizer that quickly cleans and decontaminates all working brush heads – very convenient and takes cleaning to a new level of hygiene.
Most of the owners of toothbrushes are positive about the quality of cleaning and high battery capacity. No principal disadvantages were found, except that some users have pointed out the unusual feeling at the first brushing, which is logical, because the ultrasonic brush works on a different principle than the traditional model with reciprocating and rotating movements.

Emmi-dent 6 Platinum
Rating: 4.8

The next brush in our review – Emmi-dent 6 Platinum. Products are made in Germany using unique patented technology. The brush emits vibrations at a frequency of 1.6 MHz, being exclusively in the ultrasonic range.
The key difference of this model from other manufacturers is that the ultrasonic generator with chip is not in the body of the handle, but directly in the cleaning head. This allows the sound wave to penetrate as deeply as possible into the gums and plaque, performing an effective cleaning and tissue massage at the same time. If you replace the brush head every 3 months you get a new head and a new ultrasound chip so it works like new every time.
This type of design is patented in Germany, the EU and Russia (patent number 2526465), which makes the brush Emmi-dent 6 Platinum unique solution that has no analogues.
Special brush design generates up to 96 million vibrations per minute. This speed effectively kills all bacteria, including plaque. Together with the non-abrasive toothpaste micro-particles of active foam are created on the tooth surface, which envelop and kill bacteria almost instantly.
Users speak highly of the high-quality German construction, unique design and high efficiency. The disadvantages of consumers include a very high cost of the device.
We recommend Emmi-dent 6 Platinum to all users who want the ultimative quality of cleaning and have the opportunity to buy a premium device.
Megasonex
Rating: 4.9

Rounding out our review of the best ultrasonic toothbrushes is the Megasonex model from the brand of the same name. The brush is made in China, but it is very well made, with no backlashes and warping.
The distinctive feature of this model is that it works in range 1.6 MHz with up to 9 vibration frequency.6 million vibrations per minute. This range is called “medical” ultrasound, which allows the brush to gently care for the oral cavity. The distinctive feature of the model – the rapid destruction of the bonds in the bacterial chains (including plaque and tartar), which allows the device to almost independently clean your teeth without outside help.
The ultrasonic generator itself is placed right under the bristles which enables it to transmit the vibrations directly to the plaque with practically no loss. It significantly improves cleaning efficiency compared to the models in which ultrasound is generated in the handle.
Most users have experienced the effects of deep ultrasonic teeth cleaning using the Megasonex brush. Many consumers after 10 years of use buy the same exact new brush without even considering alternatives. Among the disadvantages, some respondents noted the overpriced device.
Megasonex is one of the first ultrasonic toothbrushes that appeared on the Russian market. It is still very effective, practical and ergonomic, but has undergone few changes over the years. We recommend Megasonex ultrasonic toothbrush to all fans of innovative technologies in the field of oral care.
Advantages
- Operating at the “medical ultrasound” frequency.

- One of the first ultrasonic toothbrushes on the market.

Rating: 4.9

The Oral-B Smart 4 Junior Sensi model completes our review of the best toothbrushes for kids. The brush is highly functional and cleverly designed to allow your child to brush their own teeth and take care of their oral health.

The second important option is the presence of a gum pressure sensor. It has an external red light at the base of the head. In case you apply too much pressure the system gives you an automatic warning and lowers the rotation speed of the brush head, preventing possible damage to gums and enamel.
The brush can be connected via Bluetooth to the proprietary application where the user can select the appropriate mode (whitening, gentle or daily brushing), as well as receive all the necessary recommendations from leading specialists Oral-B for proper brushing teeth.
The manufacturer has made the socket for the nozzle universal, allowing the heads to be used not only for children, but also for adults.

Among the positive points users note the ergonomic design, the presence of a pressure sensor, long battery life and high efficiency. No critical defects were found, only a few users note the ill-conceived design of the charging indicator. It does not show the current charge of the battery, and the light comes on only when the charge is almost zero, which is not very convenient.
