Manufacturers’ efforts to please customers and surpass the competition eventually led to the appearance of supercars and later hypercars. The horsepower race hasn’t stopped recently and companies are still continuing to increase the number of horsepower under the hood of new models. In this rating we will consider ten cars which are leading by this indicator at the moment.

The Swedish Koenigsegg CCX-R was created as an environmentally friendly version of the standard CCX. The hypercar inherited an eight-cylinder engine from its predecessor, but its output has increased by more than 200 l.s., As a result, it achieves an output of 1,018 liters.s. The reason for this progress, which shocked even the engineers who tested the car, is mainly the use of ethanol, whose excellent cooling properties made it possible to increase the pressure in the cylinders. Of course, the CCX-R model has undergone some structural improvements in terms of fuel channels and turbocharger system. As for dynamics, the vehicle weighing 1,280 kg is able to reach 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, while subjecting the occupants of the cabin to impressive overloads of 1.4 G. The top speed is 402 km/h.
Rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, assembled by hand and produced in limited edition by the Danish car company Zenvo. Despite the fact that the car is designed for highway use, engineers tried to make its design as close to a racing car as possible. The basis of the body of a total weight of 1.68 tons is a steel frame with carbon fiber panels. Adjustable suspension with hydraulic shock absorbers and six-speed manual transmission further contribute to the explosive dynamics of the 1100 hp monster from Denmark. The seven-liter V8 engine produces a maximum torque of 1430 Nm. It is complemented by a Gerrett turbocharger, which provides a stable increase in power at high revs. The Zenvo ST1 is electronically limited to 375 km/h and takes just 3.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h.
Ugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport
Super Sport modification was based on the standard Bugatti Veyron 16.4. In developing it, engineers managed to increase engine performance, refine the cooling system and suspension. The latter has added cornering confidence to an already extremely stable hypercar. In addition the car has received an updated exhaust system. The turbocharger was significantly improved, several air intakes were added. The Super Sport has also undergone changes to the bodywork, which has become completely carbon fiber. Under the hood of the car is a W-shaped sixteen-cylinder engine with 1200 horsepower.s. Thanks to its near perfect aerodynamics, it takes just two and a half seconds to reach a hundred and a top speed of 430 km/h (we had to remove the electronic limiter to fix the record).
Hennessey Venom GT
This supercar was created by the American tuning company Hennessey Performance Engineering. Its eight-cylinder engine, borrowed from Chevrolet Corvette and considerably improved, has power of 1260 horse forces and develops maximum torque of 1566 Nm at 4400 rpm. Also the Hennessey Venom GT is equipped with a pair of turbochargers, adjustable suspension and a rear antifender. In order to reduce weight and improve aerodynamic properties, the car body and wheels are made of carbon fiber. The Venom GT was tested in 2.8 seconds from zero to 60 and reached a top speed of 427 km/h.
Locus Plethore LC-1300
The 1300-horsepower hypercar was created by the Canadian company HTT Automobile. During its development engineers focused on the standards of Formula 1, which ensured amazing aerodynamic performance. The basis of the body is a carbon monocoque with panels of composite material, the total mass of the car – 1250 kg. Under the hood of the Locus Plethore LC-1300 is a V8 engine with a cubic capacity of 8200 cc, producing a maximum torque of 950 Nm at 3000 rpm. The car accelerates to 385 km/h and reaches the first hundred in 2.8 seconds.
Koenigsegg One: 1 is equipped with a five-liter twin-turbo engine rated at 1360 hp.s., With 1,370 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The Swedish company’s engineers managed to create the body mainly of composite materials, due to which they managed to achieve a weight of only 1,360 kilograms. Thus, the car’s specific power as a percentage was one to one, which was reflected in the model name. One of the important features of the Bugatti Chiron (as the manufacturer calls it) is its ideal aerodynamics, which is aided by the variable geometry of the winglets and the automatic head room control. The car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and it takes only 20 seconds to reach 400 km/h. Given such monstrous dynamics, an ultra-modern braking system with force-ventilated carbon-ceramic brake pads, capable of stopping the Koenigsegg One: 1 from 400 km/h in 10 seconds (assuming an antifender is used as an air brake) was developed for efficient handling.
The Bugatti Chiron
This engineering masterpiece was named after a famous racing driver Louis-Alexandre Chiron. The turbocharged sixteen-cylinder engine in the hypercar has 1,500 horsepower and maximum torque of 1,600 Nm at 6,700 rpm. The engine is equipped with four turbochargers. The Bugatti Chiron’s excellent handling is ensured by a number of stabilisation systems, adaptive suspension and all-wheel drive with an active rear differential. Also developed for the car was a robotized 7-speed transmission with two clutches. Its top speed is 420 km/h and the Chiron reaches 100 km/h in an incredible 2.4 seconds.
