The best desktop mini projectors

The first selection presents five examples of projectors that are essentially stationary, but are easy to transport and quick to adapt in a new location. They are compact, weighing only a few pounds, not dozens of kilograms like real stationary projectors.

TouYinGer T4 mini

The first in this selection will be the most inexpensive option of those that can be considered workable. The projector costs less than 10k. I can’t afford to spend too much money for this kind of device. Here the creators of the model successfully embodied simplicity, good quality and minimal, but sufficient for many tasks functionality.

Projector dimensions – 218x88x172 mm, weight – 1.2 kg. Two stereo speakers with 2 watts each are built in. Not bad plastic body, discreet design, universal for consumer electronics. Next we propose to get acquainted with another good mini projector. This model is twice as expensive as the previous one, but it still stays in the budget category. As for features and functionality, they are worth the price difference.

Projector dimensions – 303x104x222 mm, which hardly, but still fits into the concept of “mini. Weight is also moderate – 2.3 kg. Here too uses a similar stereo pair with the same power as in the previous model – two speakers 2 watts each. What unites these models is the principle of action – LED, and similar in characteristics, the lamp is designed for the same 30 thousand hours.

The set of interfaces here is twice as wide as in TouYinGer T4 mini: two HDMI video inputs, one VGA input, component input, audio input on RCA jack (“tube”) – the same audio jack is on the output; and two USB ports on the classic type A sockets. If you critically need Wi-Fi, you need to check availability of the module at the point of sale before buying, because different modifications can differ just by its presence.

On the whole, the reviews on this model are mostly positive, but only from those who took the trouble to carefully calibrate and adjust the projector before using it actively. In the state right from the factory the project can blur on the edges of a full frame, give some distortion of shades. But these points are critical only in rare cases, and for domestic use such tricks are not necessary.

DIGMA DiMagic Cube

The third number in our review, we will consider almost the exact opposite of the previous model. DIGMA DiMagic Cube could well be considered pocketable, if not for its shape. Otherwise, it’s a mini projector, portable in every sense, including in terms of autonomous power.

The shape of the projector – almost regular cube with rounded corners. Dimensions – 61x64x62 mm. Weight – only 0.34 kg. Housing is plastic, mostly black with bright red design artifacts. A considerable part of this rather modest volume is occupied by a stereo pair – speakers with 2 watts each.

In terms of image reproduction, you can’t expect superpowers from this model, because it is designed for maximum mobility, when the conditions for presentation can be anything. So consumers shouldn’t be confused by paltry specifications like 50 lm of luminous flux. At this microscale this is quite sufficient.

At 50 lumens the contrast ratio is 1000:1, which is equivalent to an “average” IPS matrix, of course, with some reservations about ambient light. The manufacturers measure contrast in near perfect darkness, when even the surrounding objects and walls absorb maximum stray light.

The resolution of this model is also very limited – 854×480, but it’s quite acceptable for an image size from 0.25 meters, as the manufacturer recommends. The maximum recommended size in width is up to 3.05, but it’s already questionable just because of the small resolution, unless the viewer’s position will be away from the screen at a great distance, when the pixels will already be indistinguishable.

Such a seemingly simple device is based on quite powerful electronics. So, it has its own 1GB of RAM, as well as 16GB of internal memory for the shell and data. USB interface on type B socket for connection. The output is mini jack 3.5 mm audio output. There is a Bluetooth wireless communication module.

Xiaomi Mijia MJJGTYDS02FM

Next in the selection is a very good mini projector by Xiaomi, which was another successful experiment by Xiaomi in terms of creating their own version of anything. It depends on stationary power supply, but its size allows us to consider it conditionally portable.

The projector dimensions are really modest, 150x150x115 mm, as well as its weight of 1.3 kg. The design is classical in the spirit of well-known to all amateur projectors for diafilms. Because of the intention to minimize the manufacturer supplied the projector only one speaker.

The projector principle is LED. Standard lamp has a resource up to 30 hours in power-saving mode. The generated light output looks a little pale in all senses against the background of stationary models – 500 lm, but you have to remember that for this format is quite acceptable. This projector with all the listed advantages and still deserves high marks for compatibility. It supports HDTV, 3D display format, Smart TV. All the software runs on Android OS.

From the disadvantages, the most annoying perhaps, is the absence of official global firmware. English interface is available, but it doesn’t help much, as many connected services are in the same Chinese. This problem can be solved, but will require some knowledge and assiduity, or the help of a specialist.s

    Separately worth mentioning is the projector’s ability to correct keystone distortions. This feature is not available in all versions of Everycom S6 plus. The amount of RAM can serve as a benchmark. Coming modifications with 8, 16 or 32 GB RAM. The youngest with 8GB trapezoidal distortion can’t correct, the other two do it automatically.

    As for interfaces, this model has a surprisingly many options, as far as they fit into the miniature case. So, here we have HDMI input (for some modifications); mini jack output 3.5 mm for audio; two USB ports on a classic Type A socket; a card reader for full-size SD flash cards. There’s also wireless connectivity – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth.

    Separate explanation about the HDMI interface. In versions with 8/16GB RAM, HDMI works like a set-top box. On models with 32GB RAM, HDMI can be used to connect the projector to a PC or laptop, game console and other compatible devices.

    Users are for the most part happy with almost everything about this model – the quality of the details, the particularly high image quality with a record contrast, the stylish, modern design. Objective criticisms of the model does not cause, only separate complaints about the fact that it supports few multimedia formats when reading from a flash drive.

    One of the most striking features of this projector that many reviewers emphasize is the automatic projection geometry adjustment when the projector is on the side, not in the center of the screen. This “super feature” is not unique, but it’s found in rare models.
