10 best laptops under 40000 rubles

*Editor’s review of the best laptops. About the selection criteria. This material is subjective, not an advertisement and not a buying guide. You should consult with an expert before buying.

The 40000-ruble range has long been the dividing line between budget and mid-range laptops. The dramatic leap in technology has led to more advanced and powerful computer platforms, but no cheapening in the lower segment is to be expected. What’s left to do? To buy everything in a row in the hope that it will help in work and at the same time pull games? Or put up with the fact that notebooks have become a special purpose attribute, but not an alternative to personal computers?

The Expertology editorial staff asked themselves this question, and tried to select the 10 best laptops in the budget under 40000 rubles. The ranking was based on the following conditions:

  1. The balance of the characteristics of the main elements;
  2. build quality and reliability;
  3. user feedback and in-house expert opinion;
  4. Possibility to combine working with software and running games.

ASUS VivoBook S15 S530

Rating: 4.9

ASUS VivoBook S15 S530

First place goes to the notebook ASUS VivoBook S15 S530 with the most optimal, in our opinion, selection of technical components. It uses the Core i5 8250U Whiskey Lake “stone”, which works as it is at 1.6 GHz, and when overclocked it reaches 3.1 GHz. It comes with 6GB of DDR4 RAM at 2400MHz, as well as an NVIDIA GeForce MX150 discrete graphics card with 2GB of DDR5 memory.

Laptop ASUS VivoBook S15 S530 has no optical drive (as, however, in all other representatives of the rating). HDD file storage, although more advanced configurations of the lineup also use SSD drives. Benefit from its 1TB capacity and 7200rpm spin speed. The body is made of high-quality metal alloy, and the weight does not exceed 1.8 kg.

Advantages

  • good balance between the elements of the configuration;
  • stylish and lightweight laptop with a metal body (in mint color);
  • The presence of a discrete graphics card;
  • powerful processor.

Disadvantages

  • did not find.

DELL INSPIRON 5482 2-in-1

Rating: 4.8

DELL INSPIRON 5482 2-IN-1

One step from the leader of the ranking is a laptop-transformer DELL INSPIRON 5482 2-in-1 in the configuration based on Core i3 8145U. This “stone” uses Whiskey Lake-U architecture, has overclocking potential and runs at 2200 MHz in nominal mode. Together with it the developers are actively promoting the standard scheme from the built-in graphics card (not serious at all, if you take the purchase price) HD Graphics 620 and a 4 GB DDR4 memory card with a frequency of 2666 MHz.

The DELL INSPIRON 5482 2-in-1 file drive is a 256GB SSD drive. Quite a good choice, especially in view of the possibility of reading SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards. Charge enough for more than 8 hours of battery life. The notebook’s enclosure is metal, rugged, slightly weighting down the overall weight of the notebook (1.75 kg). The notebook is very successful, and it is extremely easy to adapt to work needs.

Advantages

  • good configure of the main elements (t.ch. and cooling);
  • multi-touch display;
  • A fairly light and stylish laptop;
  • More than 8 hours of battery life.

Disadvantages

  • No discrete graphics card.

Lenovo Ideapad 530s 14

Rating: 4.7

Lenovo Ideapad 530s 14

The Ideapad 530s 14 from Lenovo is not based on the i5 processor line, but it has a very good and modern configuration for any task. As the “engine” of a notebook under 40k. The developers have chosen Intel Core i3 8130U – dual-core overclocking “stone” with a nominal frequency of 2200 MHz. Reliable, moderately powerful to solve any work tasks and run games.

As for the RAM, everything is standard: 4GB expandable to 16GB at 2133. 128 Gb SSD-drive was added to the configuration as storage – not much, but together with the possibility to use SD memory cards it will do.

But the main advantage of Ideapad 530s 14 is a discrete graphics card from AMD Radeon RX 540 with 4 GB of memory, aimed primarily at gamers. So if you’re looking for versatility, this notebook may be the ideal solution.

Advantages

  • the presence of a discrete graphics card, aimed at the gaming audience;
  • A convenient, concise and stylish metal housing;
  • More than 8 hours without recharging;
  • 1.49 kg of weight;
  • SSD storage.

Disadvantages

  • did not find.

ASUS Zenbook UX310UA

Rating: 4.6

ASUS ZENBOOK UX310UA

A laptop, the bulk of the cost of which is a markup for the brand. ASUS Zenbook UX310UA can not be called bad, because its main quality (especially in this modification) is reliability. The time-tested dual-core Core i3 7100U, which uses Kaby Lake architecture, operates honestly at 2400 MHz, and also supports turbo mode. Complemented by the standard 4GB RAM at 2400 MHz, which you can increase up to 16GB (but only one card). Built-in video card – a miscalculation of many laptops in this price range.

The decision to equip the notebook with a 5400 rpmHD looks rather controversial. And even the emphasis on the amount of memory (1TB) does not change the situation at all. But all the ‘stuffing’ is placed under the reliable metal case that can withstand a fall from a table height. And the weight of 1.45 kg lets you carry the notebook anywhere you want.

Advantages

  • Not a bad processor with the potential for overclocking;
  • A lightweight metal chassis;
  • Long battery life (up to 8.5 hours);
  • Harman quality sound.

Flaws

  • Too modest performance for 40 thousand. rubles.

DELL Vostro 5481

Rating: 4.5

DELL VOSTRO 5481

For less than 40 thousand rubles for sale and one of the initial modifications DELL Vostro 5481 based on the processor Intel Core i5 8265U. This chip uses Whiskey Lake microarchitecture, runs at 1600 MHz but can overclock at 3000 MHz in turbo mode. At the same time, it has 4 GB of RAM at 2666 MHz and is expandable up to 32 GB at a later date.

As the drive used HDD with 1000 GB at 5400 RPM – too weak choice for such a device. As well as the graphics card – it’s still an integrated 620-version of HD Graphics.

But despite the controversial configuration DELL Vostro 5481 has a very important plus: a metallic body, while many of the competitors are “packed” in the usual plastic. And the weight of the laptop, despite the choice of material, goes to the plus overall ergonomics: only 1550 gr.

Advantages

  • powerful processor with a relatively new microarchitecture;
  • The ability to expand the RAM up to 32 GB;
  • metal case;
  • ergonomics and nice design.

Disadvantages

  • The selection of a slow hard drive and integrated graphics card.

HP ProBook 430 G5 (4WV23EA)

Rating: 4.4

HP ProBook 430 G5 (4WV23EA)

If all previous rating representatives were based on Core i3 processors, then HP ProBook 430 G5 (4WV23EA) offers a more attractive variant with Intel Core i5 on the board. The dual-core 7200U model runs at 2.5 GHz, and uses the Kaby Lake microarchitecture. To match the processor the developers added the standard 4GB of RAM with a 2400MHz DDR4 memory card. Fortunately, users have been given the option to expand the RAM up to 16GB through an available slot.

Unfortunately for customers, the HP ProBook 430 G5 (4WV23EA) has only an integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 graphics card. This is too little for a configuration like this. As well as a 500GB HDD, the good thing about it is that it spins at 7200 rpm. The notebook works for no more than 7 hours, has a 3-section lithium-ion battery, and weighs only 1.49 kg.

Advantages

  • the ability to expand memory up to 16GB;
  • Core i5 with Turbo Boost support up to 3100 MHz;
  • 1.49 kg of weight;
  • Friendly and stylish.

Disadvantages

  • Built-in video card in a pretty good configuration.

Acer ASPIRE 3 A315-51-32FV

Rating: 4.3

ACER ASPIRE 3 A315-51-32FV

So far, the cheapest notebook model in our rating, which can be adapted to run a number of games, and as a mobile work platform. The base of the Acer ASPIRE 3 A315-51-32FV is:

  1. Core i3-7020U is dual-core, quad-core, clocked at 2.3 GHz;
  2. 4 GB of DDR4 RAM with the ability to expand up to 12 GB;
  3. Integrated graphics cards HD Graphics 520, HD Graphics 620;
  4. SATA HDD 500GB at 5400 RPM.

The weakest point of the configuration, of course, is the hard drive – by putting something more impressive there and raising the price to 30 ths. The notebook would have looked much more attractive if it had been purchased at a low price.

A big plus of the Acer ASPIRE 3 A315-51-32FV is the low weight (only 2.1 kg), as well as a good capacity of built-in two-section battery (4810 mAh). Due to this laptop can always be taken with you even without charging – the estimated battery life is almost 7 hours. Good value for a small price.

Advantages

  • low price;
  • an acceptable configuration;
  • The possibility of increasing RAM;
  • 2.1 kg weight and more than 6 hours of battery life.

disadvantages

  • A slow hard drive with low memory capacity.

Lenovo Yoga 530-14IKB

Rating: 4.2

Lenovo Yoga 530-14IKB

The Lenovo Yoga 530-14IKB Transformer Notebook is the perfect buy for creative types. In terms of ergonomics it is very close to the model from Xiaomi: the body is made of aluminum alloy, the weight is not more than 1600 grams, and the battery lasts up to 10 hours. There are also several mobile “plushies” integrated, such as a fingerprint scanner, IPS touchscreen and the ability to expand internal storage with a Micro SD card.

As for specifications, the Lenovo Yoga 530-14IKB is based on Core i3-7020U with a frequency of 2.3 GHz. As the RAM module used one 4 GB DDR4 chip with a frequency of 2133 MHz, and for graphics processing is responsible for built-in video card Intel UHD Graphics 620. SSD on 128 Gb is used as storage, and already at this stage it becomes clear that the notebook is expedient to use either for work in the office, or for travel use. This contender in the rating is obviously not made for PC games.

Advantages

  • performance;
  • Up to 10 hours of battery life;
  • touch display;
  • lightweight and sleek design.

Disadvantages

  • Integrated graphics card and small SSD.

On the last line of the ranking laptopXiaomi RedmiBook 14″ with the initial set of components. For 40 thousand rubles, the user can get a configuration with a processor Intel Core i3 8145U – dual-core (4 threads) with a clock frequency of 2.1 GHz. It is overclockable and can run at 3.9GHz at peak overclocking.

The amount of RAM in the Xiaomi RedmiBook 14″ configuration under consideration is 4GB of DDR4 with an estimated frequency of 2400 MHz. Integrated graphics card, Intel UHD Graphics 620, is unlikely to “pull” any resource games. But as the main drive used SSD-drive for 256 GB.

Considering that the battery life of the laptop is just under 11 hours, and the weight does not exceed 1500 g, it will be a great buy for working with documentation and a number of specialized programs.

Advantages

  • aluminum case;
  • lightness and beauty of design;
  • responsiveness of the system (thanks to the SSD-drive);
  • Up to 11 hours of use without recharging and the availability of fast charging (50% in 35 min).

Disadvantages

  • not the most optimal set of features for 40k rubles.
