LED light sources are a low-budget and simple solution created for everyday use in the dark time or for decorative illumination. The simplest LED lanterns hardly from the first year of production gave way to lights and LED threads.
Criteria for selecting LED ribbons
First of all, the link is chosen by power to the pattern meter – it is equal to 4.8-19.2 watts. Power consumption depends on the number of LEDs on each meter of tape, as well as from the nominal one defining labeling (model or series) of the light element.
The second factor is the length of the diode tape in the coil – from 5 to 100 m. Cutting points – they are accompanied by an identification mark, reminiscent of the scissors – in tapes for supply voltage at 12 and 24 volts are located every more centimeters. 220 V ribbons can be cut only every half meter or meter – a sequential connection of a large group of LEDs does not allow to cut the light elements with small groups.
Finally, the width of the color of the emitted light depends on the number of colors. LED tape is produced in the form of a high-tech flexible printed circuit board, the width of which happens from a few millimeters to more than a centimeter. Typical variations are the width values of lights in 3, 4, 5 and 6 mm. The large values used mainly for street and other outer illumination are presented 8, 10 and 10.2 millimeters.
Whole narrow – or wide – tapes are developed: the first compete with LED thread, the second – with strip assemblies, approaching the execution to light panels used in spotlights.
Ribbons are produced open (unprotected from moisture) and closed. Closed tape – light elements – on the mounting flexible board in a transparent polymer frame made by casting. The thickness of the open ribbon is from 2 mm, closed – up to centimeter, along with silicone coating. The closed tape can be operated in rooms with high humidity, in the rain or immersed in water – the conditions of moisture protection from IP-65 correspond to IP-69. Nurable tapes belong to IP-20 class – IP-40.

Deciding which width, thickness, lengths and power (light outputs) of the tape are needed, it is necessary to clarify which LEDs were used in the production of lights, the coil of which the user wishes to purchase.
So, the LEDs of the SMD-3528 brand differ in a rather high fit, but the heat sink characteristics are noticeably worse than the SMD-5050 brand elements.
Due to the degraded heat sink, it should be extremely careful when powered by SMD-3528 LEDs: it is better to lower the supply voltage somewhat, and with it and issued traffic. If heat does not have time to dissipate on a metal or composite substrate, the LED in a few minutes will accumulate excess heat. Working practically overheated – the temperature of the LED reaches 42-75 degrees – the light crystal in several hundred or a couple of thousand hours of continuous operation will be impaired, since its so-called work point of the Volt-ampere characteristic is disturbed, with time leaving the heat breakdown area, which is unacceptable.
FEATURES OF POWERS SLESSENTS
Some craftsmen advise additionally include in the LED-ribbon chain lowering voltage rectifying diodes. Or use an adjustable power supply or driver, in which the voltage (or current) is exhibited using a standard resistor slider that performs the role of a kind of potentiometer. In this case, on the white LED, the voltage should be about 3 V (2.7-3.3 permissible), on color – red, yellow, blue or green – about 2 V (optimally 1.8-2.2). This refers to the links of any width, power and the number of LEDs on the trafficphone meter.
