Pocket service in Firefox – installation and settings

Pocket deferred reading service is integrated into Firefox at the code level and is an optional feature. To activate and save articles, the user only needs to register or log in with an existing username. Our experts tell us about Pocket features and its settings.

Registration and login

Feature level integration means that unlike other browsers, there is no need to install an extension to use the delayed reading service in Firefox.

The Pocket icon is displayed on the right side of the combined address and search bar of the browser by default. Click on it and call the context activation menu. The button marked with number 2 is for logging in using Firefox Sync. Below is a link for registration by e-mail. The last button marked with a triplet in the screenshot is a line with a hyperlink for logging in registered users. Let’s use it to go to authorization page.

The menu that opens in a new browser tab contains several login options. If there is a username-password pair, enter it in the fields highlighted with a green marker. Use one of the associated services in the list marked with a two. The last one contains a hyperlink for registration via e-mail.

The following screenshot shows the Pocket home page with a set of articles previously saved by the user. You can close the tab after authorization by setting the service to run in the background mode.

Working with Pocket

This is a delayed reading service. Interesting material encountered on the web can be put aside for further study using this button. After saving, all unnecessary data will be removed and you will get the information cleared of advertising inserts in the form of a newspaper article.

Open the page we want to put aside in the browser. To save it in Pocket, click the service icon in the address bar or the three dots located to the left of it. Click the line designated by the number “3” in the pop-up menu.

When the material is saved, a notification pops up below the address bar. The green highlighted field is for entering tags, which allows you to sort your saved articles into user-defined categories.

Access to the collected materials opens in the “Library” section. Click the icon marked “1” on the toolbar. In the menu that opens, choose the line marked with the frame.

The last saved article is marked on the screenshot by a unit. Numbers “2” and “3” contain areas used to open the control menus.

In the sliding left panel the user can edit filters and see articles previously put in the archive. On the right side, clicking on the avatar opens the personalization menu. It configures the general background of the window, the sorting order of the materials and gives access to the profile parameters.

After opening a saved article, click the icon marked with an arrow. Choose a background color, size and type of a font in the appeared menu. The number “2” marks the area with sorting tools.

Advanced settings

Not all Firefox users need the delayed reading service, and some people are simply disturbed by the extra icon in the address bar. In this section, our experts explain the advanced browser settings that allow you to disable and enable the Pocket.

Delete button

To remove the service button from the address bar, right-click on it. The same result can be achieved by opening the context menu. Here, right-click on the line marked with a twos. In both cases, an action area will appear, highlighted by a green frame and marked with the number “3”. By clicking on it, delete the Pocket button. In this case the service remains on and will be available in the context menu.

To switch back the button, click on the trailing dot in the address bar. In the action list that appears, right-click on the “Save Page” line. Click the “Add” pop-up button labeled “three” in the screenshot.

Deactivation of service

You can completely disable the lazy reading service by removing the icon from the address bar and the context menu items in the configuration panel.

Type “about:config” in the highlighted field and hit Enter.

By clicking the boxed button, we agree with the caution warning and accept responsibility for the consequences of the actions we perform.

Finding ourselves in the configuration panel, type “Pocket” in the highlighted field. Find the “extensions” option in the list that opens.pocket.You can see the “enabled” icon in the screenshot. Click on the triple icon. The value of the parameter marked “4” will change to “false”, and the entire line will be highlighted in bold.

As a result of performed operation Pocket service in Firefox is disabled completely. The corresponding items and the icon are not displayed in the address menu.

For switching the lazy reading service on again repeat the first two operations, entering the configuration panel. Click on the icon in front of the marked by a frame returning “true” value to it.
