Greenhouse for grapes: species and their features

    Not in all regions, climatic conditions allow growing grapes on a household plot. However, this culture can be raised in specially equipped greenhouses.

    Advantages and disadvantages of greenhouse cultivation

    In the greenhouses, not only those grapes are grown, which are not adapted to climatic conditions in the region. Unpretentious plants are also often planted in specially trained designs.

    The greenhouse cultivation of grapes has such significant advantages as:

    • Vineyards are reliably protected from adverse atmospheric influences;
    • Plants grown in the greenhouse give more harvest;
    • rapid ripening of berries;
    • Minimum grape disease risks. Plants growing in the open soil, they get sick much more often;
    • easy to care for the vineyard;
    • protection against malicious insects;
    • In the greenhouses, you can grow even those grapes that are not suitable for seedlings in the region in the open soil;
    • The vineyard will not need to handle chemicals, which allows you to get an environmentally friendly yield of berries.

    The disadvantages of greenhouse cultivation primarily include cash costs for the purchase or manufacture of the desired design. In addition, grapes growing in a greenhouse can overheat and damage in a hot period of time, especially if the design is not equipped with an automatic ventilation system.

    Design features

    Constructions intended for growing grapes have some features. First of all it concerns the size of the greenhouse. The height of the construction should be at least two and a half meters. The total area of the greenhouse must be at least twenty five square meters. Under the greenhouse for grapes necessarily need to lay the foundation to protect the plant from freezing. Reliable foundation will also protect the design from the penetration of malicious insects and weed plants.

    Cellular polycarbonate is most often used as a concealed material for greenhouses. This material misses the light well and has good thermal insulation characteristics.

    For unheated greenhouses, it is possible to use the underfloor polyethylene film. For growing grapes, a durable and durable design is required, as the plant can bring the fruits not the first year. Strong framework frame required for its long-term operation. The frame can be made of galvanized or profiled pipes.

    To grow the heat-loving grape varieties, the greenhouse must be equipped with heating. Infrared lamps can be used as heaters. The devices are suspended in the ceiling area. When using such devices, the framework frame will need to strengthen well. An alternative option can serve as a special heating cable laid under the soil. Some types of grapes require a large amount of light. In the northern regions, the lack of sunlight can be compensated by lighting devices. The most commonly applied fluorescent lamps of daylight.

    The greenhouse also needs to create good ventilation to maintain microclimate. So that the construction is automatically ventilated, it is recommended to equip the vehicles of the greenhouse by hydraulic cylinders. This device reacts to the change in the air temperature inside the greenhouse. When the temperature is raised in the greenhouse, the device opens the vents when the temperature decreases – closes them. As a system of irrigation, it is recommended to use drip irrigation. Grapes does not require frequent irrigation. Automatic systems greatly facilitate plant care and provide the required amount of moisture.

    To grow grapes, you can buy a ready-made greenhouse or makes it yourself. To select a suitable type of construction, you need to consider some features of growing vineyards.

    By type of covering material, greenhouses for grapes are divided into two types.

    • Polyethylene film. Such material is the cheapest option for greenhouse. However, the film does not differ long service life and is suitable only for the cultivation of insensitive grapes.
    • Cellular polycarbonate. The strength of this material is two hundred times greater than the strength of the glass. The design of polycarbonate is reliably protected from precipitation and strong wind. In addition, the material is characterized by good transparency and long service life. Cellular polycarbonate greenhouses are the most suitable option for grape growing.

    Important value for vineyards has a form of design.

    The most appropriate variants for grapes are two types of greenhouses.

    • Construction of a rectangular shape with a two-tie roof. Such a building provides a good level of lighting for plants. The shape of the greenhouse allows you to form an optimal height of the design for growing vineyards.
    • Arch form. This type of greenhouses is distinguished by the low cost and ease of assembly. Such a design for some parameters is inferior to rectangular greenhouses, but also suitable for planting vineyards.

    Some gardeners recommend using for growing grapes with removable riding.

    Such an option allows you to protect plants from frills in the winter period. Having removed the roof, access to snow sediments inside the construction. Thus, the soil is saturated with moisture, and the snow layer protects the root system of the vineyard from the freezing.

    How to make it yourself?

    Knowing the features of greenhouses for grapes you can make a suitable design yourself. Such an approach, in contrast to the purchase of ready-made options, will create the most convenient construction and necessary to equip it.

    Design design

    When designing a future building, it is necessary to determine the size and shape of the structure, as well as with the materials from which the main elements of the greenhouse will be manufactured. The area of construction depends on which grapes planned in what quantity. The recommended height of the greenhouse is two and a half meters. However, for some grape varieties will fit lower and lower designs.

    To build an arched construction from polycarbonate, the size of straight walls can be 4.2×1.5 m. The height of the greenhouse in a particular case will be 1.5 m. The width of the construction will depend on the roof row. In addition to the arched forms for grapes, a rectangular design with a two-tie roof. This option can be collected from wooden beams and cellular polycarbonate.

    Before building the greenhouses are recommended to build a foundation. The most common option is a small-breeding belt foundation. The lack of such a solution is the high probability of bad influence on the root system of the vineyard. The foundation from concrete may limit the growth of the roots of the plant.

    Alternatively, you can use metal corners with a length of about one meter.

    At the bottom of the corners are welded small supporting thick plates from iron. For a large greenhouse, 14 such supporting pins may be required for the arrangement around the perimeter and about 7 – for the central installation.

    For the construction of the frame, such materials like metal or wood are suitable. Working with wooden beams is much easier, as it will not be necessary to carry out welding. However, this material is inferior in many characteristics of the metal. The most optimal option is the framework of galvanized profile. You can use self-tapping screws, metal rivets or bolts as fasteners. If there is experience with the welding machine, then the design will be much easier to cook welding.

          First of all, an assembly of a frame of future greenhouse is assembly. Galvanized profile cuts into elements of the desired length. Frames are collected or welded from component parts. For fastening polycarbonate sheets on a frame, you need to install special rubber inserts. Cellular polycarbonate sheets are installed on inserts. In the fields of joints with the help of self-tapping plates Metal lining.

          For the tightness of the design, all seams are recommended to be sealing sealant.
