Tearing door panels MDF: pros and cons

MDF door sheathing is used mainly at the entrance doors so that they make more harmoniously fit into the interior of the hallway. This method has gained great popularity due to the set of advantages inherent in it, however, has this solution and cons.

What it is?

MDF panels are plates made of compressed sawdust glued with lignin, which was released during wood heating. This material is completely natural and, in contrast to similar dvp, MDF plates are completely safe for health.

Features of finishing

Finishing panels MDF allows us to turn an ordinary and boring metal door to an interesting wooden version.

This is especially true in cases where the hallway is furnished in one of the traditional or classic styles.

Depending on what kind of facing panels was selected, one or another unusual effect is obtained.

The upholstery of the entrance door from the inside allows you to better fit it into the interior, and also contributes to insulation. Between the MDF panels and the metal structure, an air gap is formed, which for apartments in high-rise buildings is quite enough for high-quality insulation. If you need to make the door warmer (for example, when it leads to the street), the insulation material is placed in the clearance.

Returning back to the aesthetic side of the issue of the MDF doors, it is worth saying that you can get the effect of not only ordinary wooden panels. Now they are very popular with carved inserts under the tree, which are separated by the inner side of the doors, thereby adding them chic and high costs.

If separated using MDF not only the door itself, but also opening under it, it will turn out to make it more accurate and harmoniously combined with the door design. Thus, another plus can be the effect of integrity.

Advantages

Like each of the existing materials used to seize the door, the MDF is distinguished by a number of advantages:

Wide range of

There are several types of MDF coatings, each of which differs from all other characteristics, including the appearance. Thus, it becomes possible to create an absolutely unique composition, pickup natural coating, imitation for valuable wood and similar options.

Long service life. The material is wear-resistant and will serve its owners not one year.

MDF has a high resistance to environmental impacts, such as the prolonged effect of ultraviolet rays, temperature fluctuations, as well as mechanical impact.

Harmlessness

There are no harmful compounds in the MDF panels (in contrast to the chipboard containing formaldehyde resins). Slice of sawdust occurs due to the naturally isolated material of the substance – lignin. He is absolutely harmless and does not harm the health of man and animals.

Easy care

Unlike natural wood, so similar to the MDF, the compressed panel can be simply wiped with a damp cloth to remove dust or more serious contaminants.

Do not have to acquire a special polyrolol or spending additional efforts to careful care.

Simple montage

Despite the fact that when working with MDF, all actions need to be carried carefully and neatly, the process itself usually does not cause difficulties. Moreover, you will need tools that eat in almost every home, thereby free from the need to buy a special toolkit.

Disadvantages of panels

Despite the abundance of advantages, the MDF panels also have a number of shortcomings that for some may refuse the basis for refusing to use this material:

  • Low impact resistance. No matter how cool, and break the panel from the MDF in case of something without difficulty. It’s all about the structure of the wood slab: it diverges under the high pressure, and as a result cavity is formed.

Do not be afraid to damage the panel with an inaccier pressing or similar to innocent effects. To break it, the blow should be quite strong and targeted.

  • Spray. MDF is the same wood, but in another performance. It is not surprising that it is easy to burn. To avoid easy ignition, they advise not to install the panels from this material in the immediate vicinity with the wiring (for example, if the door is practically “oboacean” wires).

Views

Total distinguished three types of panels: veneered, laminated and anti-vandal:

Natural veneer

MDF panel covered with natural veneer.

Despite the full external similarity with woody array, veneered models are much cheaper.

This is due to the fact that the sawdust panel itself is covered with a thin cut of wood, as a result of which it turns out so naturalistic imitation.

Contrary to the fact that veneered models are the most spectacular and environmentally friendly, there are significant risks. Thus, the view of the panels with a veneer is the most capricious of all submitted, because it does not allow cleaning with ordinary water, it does not withstand mechanical effects, it is easy to scratch and does not tolerate the sun’s rays. Of course, to care for veneered MDF panels is easier than the wood, but not much.

Laminated

MDF panel covered with lamination. Lamination occurs by sticking to a special coating panel, imitating color and in some cases the texture of the selected material. This option is the cheapest due to the fact that it is easy to produce, and no particularly rare materials are required for this.

Lamination offers the widest range of design solutions, increases the level of noise insulation, as well as it is more wear-resistant than a veneer, and may stop several dozen years, without losing the original form.

The film reacts well to ultraviolet, however, high humidity or severe temperature differences are not able to withstand.

Antivandal

MDF panel plastic coated (anti-vandal). The anti-vandal surface is obtained by applying several layers of plastic, as a result of which the MDF panel acquires many additional positive qualities.

Among them are extreme resistance to mechanical damage, good or complete resistance to the effects of chemicals, insensitivity to temperature drops or humidity level.

The disadvantage of this variety is only one – this is the cost. Not everyone is ready to post a round sum for MDF, even be covered with such wonderful material. More shortcomings of the above type does not have.

Options in the interior

Below is a photo gallery of images, which partially demonstrating a variety of trim panels MDF.

Despite the fact that the opening itself is left metal, the door with the skin of MDF panels looks with it harmoniously. Beautiful viper surface attracts the attention of tradition, the color of the trim is selected by several tones lighter than the color of the most metallic canvas.

For the absence of the inner (second) door to the apartment, it is possible to separate the entrance door with laminated panels from MDF. This will make the facilities, at the same time, allowing harmoniously combine the entrance construction, which is often not distinguished by sophistication, with the interior of the hallway.

Interestingly look the door structures, trimmed using complex patterns, threads. For this model, a deep and rich color is selected, which does not distract attention from the thread, and, on the contrary, shows the entire depth and unusual of the chosen design. The door looks good, stylish and expensive.

Putting the door, do not forget to pay attention to the environment. So, beautifully looks like the option when the entire door around the perimeter is also surrounded by a mdf cover, and it is not at all necessary that the panels are the same. Sometimes it is enough to simply pick up harmonious colors.

A simple contrast door will become an interesting element of the corridor or hallway, and the upholstery of the MDF will allow a little smoothed sharpness and add the premises of the coziness. Panel color selected under the color of the wall braid, which is a separate design move.

How the master upholster the metal door to the MDF panel, can be viewed in the following video.
