Molding Mirror Methods

The mirror is an integral part of any residential premises. Archaeologists noted that some kind of glass was already in prehistoric times. And the first real mirrors appeared in France in the XVI century. Since then, in each apartment and in every house there is a mirror surface.

Where and how to hang the mirror so that it looks appropriate and beautifully complemented the interior, it will be discussed in this article.

First you need to know what the reflective surface is hanging.

At the same time, you need to pay attention to the highlights:

  • On the canvas there should be straight sun rays;
  • The best place for large mirrors is an entrance hall;
  • If the canvas have a frame, then it should be in the same style as the whole room;
  • The mirror should hang absolutely smoothly;
  • It is necessary to abandon the mirrors where there is not enough light.

There is a huge number of types of mirrors. Here are the main of them:

  • Functional. Used in direct intended. Most often hanging in the bathroom, hallway or to the toilet table;
  • Decorative. Decorate either the wall or the whole room. Can hang on the wall between the paintings, it can be hidden as a panel, decorated with painting. You can also meet the version with the design of a decorative mirror in the form of a window frame with four or five identical stalks;

  • As part of the premises. Glass can serve as a replacement of tiles or panels. Now mirror tiles are in fashion. Even a partial design of such a tile will look prestigious. And the whole walls or ceilings will produce a tremendous impression;
  • With additional feature. Any mirrors may have additional devices for convenience. For example, a backlight is embedded in the canvase. Or for the design of the rooms in the mirror can be mounted clock mechanism.

Mirrors also differ in characteristic decor elements:

  • Agreements. Such mirrors are also called patinated. The effect of antiquity is created with the help of special chemical compositions. These canvases will be perfectly fit into such styles like french or eclecticism. Gray or brown spots will be transferred to another era;
  • Faculty. A feature of such mirrors are beveled edges. They can meet in all types of interiors. Such canvas are usually extremely heavy, because to perform work on removing the champers, only thick and massive mirrors are used;

  • Colored. Most often used tinted glass, less frequent amalgam of different colors. Suitable for all directions of minimalism;
  • With patterns. Ornaments or drawings on the canvas will decorate any room.

It is necessary to remember that the mirrors are of different forms:

  • Round or oval. Such canvas fit perfectly into any interior;
  • Rectangular. Not suitable for all styles and design options. Usually has impressive sizes. It is often divided into two and it turns out an angular rectangular mirror;
  • Other forms. Now manufacturers make the canvas of a wide variety of unusual forms. It can be both silhouettes and abstract substances, various characters.

What can I attach?

Attach the mirror on any surface.

The main thing is to know which means to use for this, and from which material during the repair the wall was laid out.

On holder

On the wall, already decorated with tiles, can be mounted canvas only with the help of dowel-nails, called holders.

The fastening system itself consists of four components:

  • Plastic sleeve. It will be clogged into the wall and expand when screwing the screw;
  • Metallic screw itself;
  • Clamping detail. It performs two functions – fixes the glass most tight to the wall, also has a thread for fixing the decorative part;
  • The plug is a detail that closes the screw itself from humidity. Also has a decor function.

This embodiment is complex for self-execution. It requires drilling of holes in the canvas itself, which is often essentially extremely difficult. Therefore, it is better to refer to the specialists, defining in advance where and what holes are needed so that when installing there are no unexpected difficulties.

Next follows installation. You need to attach the glass exactly as it will hang. Celebrate holes on the wall.

Follower a drill and a special nozzle to do a hole of sufficient depth so that the glass does not break the fastener system from the wall.

After that, the sleeves are inserted into the holes. Then screws screws with a mirror. We will then need a clamping mechanism and decorative plugs. After work, you need to check whether the screws will withstand. To do this, you must slightly shake the canvas. If the dowels remained in place, then the installation is made correctly.

On profile

This method is used for those cases when it is necessary to hang a heavy mirror on plasterboard. For this process, we need a metal profile, self-tapping screw and butterfly dowel.

The most important thing when fastening the mirror on plasterboard – to find a metal profile under it. After it is found, it is necessary to secure it with the help of self-tapping screws or “butterflies”. After that you can install additional brackets. For additional strength, you can define profiles on the entire wall, make holes in the mirror and profile and consolidate it additionally. Such a system will allow to withstand a canvas height in human growth.

On fittings

There is a huge number of different fittings for mounting mirrors:

  • brackets for maintaining the canvas from the bottom and side;
  • performing suspension for glass on hooks with two screws and threads using guides;
  • brackets;
  • clamps;
  • Sheds and corners.

The algorithm for performing work for all of the above-mentioned types of fittings is almost the same. The first action will mark – it is necessary to determine exactly where the canvas will be and where the attachments will be. It is necessary to calculate two fasteners from the bottom, because they will be the maximum load. But there may be three of them and even more, because the heavier mirror, the greater the number of fasteners should be. Also, they are calculated on the sides and corners.

In the marked points, holes are made using a drill. The diameter of the opening must be identical to the holes of the fasteners. Hardware screwed into the data of the holes, and then the cloth is inserted into each holder.

In the end you need to wear decorative elements or simple plugs.

Methods without drilling

Often, two-sided tapes are used for mounting mirrors on the wall.

There are indisputable advantages:

  • Easy dismantling;
  • the possibility of using on porous surfaces;
  • cheapness;
  • Scotch is not subject to mechanical influences with humidity and temperature amplitudes.

For installation it is necessary to choose only the proven and high-quality scotch. The cost of special tape for these purposes is higher, but with it the dismantling process will be successful.

Otherwise, when using cheap scotch, there may be such developments of events:

  • Scotch will not stand the weight of the canvas, and it will crawl or fall sharply and disassembled;
  • Problems when removing the tape from the wall or from the rear surface of the mirror.

It is also necessary to remember that it is impossible to use the scotch when installing the canvas on the tile.

However, one of the easiest and fastest methods fasten the mirror on the wall is the method without drilling – only with the use of glue. Such glue is called liquid nails, and to choose such adhesion you need to approach. Only proven glue will withstand heavy mirror load.

Technology gluing

The whole process of mounting the mirror with glue can be divided into several main steps:

  • need to prepare a place to install the glass. It must be cleaned and degreased by alcohol;
  • When installing on the wall of concrete, it is necessary to perform the primer of the walls;
  • If the wallpaper is already pasted on the site of the mirror, it is desirable to remove them, otherwise the mirror can fall and tear off the wallpaper. You can also fix in the place to the wall a piece of plywood and glue the mirror on it;
  • It is necessary to note the place where the mirror will hang;

  • Prepare backups, profile and liquid nails. The backups and profile will help keep the mirror smoothly while the glue is free
  • Liquid nails should be applied or point at the same distance from each other or vertical stripes at a distance of 10-15 cm from each other;
  • When the mirror will be leaning against the wall, you will need to slightly press it for a while. After put the backups and remove them in a couple of days;
  • After removing the backups, take a look, is there no purpose between the wall and the mirror. When it is presence, be sure to use the sealant.

Tips for mounting

Although the process of mounting the mirror on the wall cannot be called complicated, and it can be done with your own hands, you need to take into account some moments when working with a mirror:

  • When drilling, it is necessary to constantly cool the mirror at the drilling site. Otherwise it can crack or get used from high temperature;
  • It is necessary to drill only a drill with diamond spraying, conventional swells will crumble the web and the hole will be inaccurate;
  • Ready holes need to be cleaned or walking the eyebrow to handle;
  • drilled holes first under the lower mounts, later – under the side and top;

  • The drywall is best to mount the mirror with a meticome with a butterfly device;
  • Instead of liquid nails, you can glue the mirror on the neutral silicone sealant. At the cost and time of the seizure, they are about the same, but acidic sealants will damage the canvas. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully study the scope of using each glue and sealant.

It is also necessary to take into account such features like:

  • humidity of the room;
  • the presence or absence of a frame in the mirror;
  • sizes, thickness and mass of the canvas;
  • Wall material in the room;
  • Permissibility of the drilling walls or canvas.

Most often for gluing mirrors use special adhesives for mirrors. They do not damage the coating. A rich selection of such compositions is presented in Leroy Merlin stores. For example:

  • Moment Liquid nails. Suitable for applying to most types of surfaces. Made of synthetic rubber, remains elastic and does not harden with time;
  • Soudal 47A. Consists of synthetic rubber. The pluses include a short period of frozen and excellent adhesive ability;

  • Tytan. Consists of rubber and various resins. Suitable for mounting on porous and uneven surfaces;
  • Penosil Mirror Fix. The foundation – synthetic rubber. Can be used for gluing a large number of surfaces. It has beige color. Drying time – about 20 minutes.
