Description of Monural

Antibacterial drug with bactericidal action Monural is available in granules for the preparation of a solution taken orally. Its main active component – phosphomycin. Produced in Switzerland by Zambon Switzerland. Recommended for the treatment of urinary tract infections.
Research and efficacy
The drug Monural can be considered the most effective and safe in the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections. It is successfully used for cystitis and pyelonephritis, whereas resistance to other agents develops very quickly.
The lowest resistance of uropathogenic bacteria to phosphomycin has been established. In a comparative analysis, an important advantage of a drug based on it is found. A single application of 3 g of Monural is equal in therapeutic effect to a week’s use of norfloxacin. Eradication of the infectious agent was 98% and 96% respectively, indicating the high effectiveness of phosphomycin in Monural.
Since 2002, Monural belongs to category B, that is, it is recommended in the treatment of bacteriuria, cystitis in pregnant women and adolescents, which is due to its low toxicity and pharmacokinetic parameters.

Description of Furadonin

Furadonin is an antimicrobial drug based on nitrofurantoin. It is used for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory pathologies of the urinary tract. Active against bacteria causing urogenital infections. Available in tablets and suspension by the companies Olainfarm and Borisovsky ZMP.
Research and efficacy
Nitrofurantoin is used to treat uncomplicated cystitis in women with a 7-day course. This therapy gradually replaces a 3-day course of treatment with trimoxazole due to the development of resistance to it. Nitrofurantoin preparations can be considered as an effective and safe alternative for the treatment of cystitis.
Active against streptococci, enterobacteria, staphylococci, salmonella, shigella and other bacteria, causative agents of urinary tract infections. It is used for cystitis and long-term therapy of pyelonephritis.
Furadonin has proven to be a well tolerated drug in clinical trials. In rare cases, it causes dyspeptic symptoms. It is the best known nitrofuran drug for the treatment of urinary tract infections. This limits its scope of application, since the concentration of the substance is observed only in the urine.
