The myotropic antispasmodic Duspatolin is available in 200 mg tablets from Abbott Healthcare Products B.V. The active ingredient of the drug is mebeverine. The drug directly affects the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, especially the walls of the large intestine. It does not affect peristalsis and has no anticholinergic effect.

The drug is used from 12 years in pediatrics and for adults for the treatment of functional disorders of the digestive tract and excretory system.

There is no strong cumulation when the drug is taken for a long time and repeatedly. The tablets of mebeverine are characterized by a prolonged release. The drug is excreted by the kidneys and with the bile.

Research and efficacy

Duspataline is the drug of choice for functional gastrointestinal disorders. It is widely used as a symptomatic agent for abdominal pain caused by spasm.

The drug’s safety data came from a study of more than 3,500 patients. Mebeverine is well tolerated, even when using doses that are higher than recommended. Most patients note the complete absence of any side effects during treatment with Duspatalin.

An important advantage of the drug is its selective action. Smooth muscle contractions are not completely suppressed and intestinal peristalsis is not inhibited. Mebeverine has two main therapeutic effects. It has an antispastic effect but reduces potassium outflow without causing hypotension.

The drug Duspatalin is effective in relieving symptoms caused by impaired bowel and biliary tract motility. It may be included in complex therapy of functional disorders of gastrointestinal tract, which are accompanied by pain, cramps, stool consistency changes, defecation frequency disturbances.

The only serious contraindication to the prescription of mebeverine is its intolerance. No teratogenic effects have been found in animal experiments.
