Numerous studies have shown that the psycho-emotional state of a person depends on the color palette, in which the interior of the room is decorated, where a person works or rests. The subconscious perception depends on the individual characteristics of a particular person (color preferences, age, character type, health condition, social status). When choosing, it is important to take into account not only the general rules and recommendations of specialists in design, but also the appointment of specific premises, and the wishes of the owners.
The concept of color circle
Studies on the study of the Sunlight spectrum first held Isaac Newton. He systematized in the form of a circular model seven main colors. Later, during further research, scientists were allocated three basic colors: blue, yellow, red, and the rest of the colors – green, orange, purple and their all kinds of variations (shades) are formed by mixing the main.
Color circle is a circular color spectrum model in which the luminosity changes from the center, the color brightness increases.
The use of a circle in the selection of the color palette when the premises makes it possible to avoid incompatible colors in the interior and create a designer style that fully corresponds to the selected.
Scientific research has proven that human vision is capable of perceiving many colors and their shades. Not to get lost in such a diverse palette will help the concept of basic elements of the color spectrum.
The colors of the spectrum are conditionally divided into warm and cold. Their location in sectors is clearly represented on the image of the color circle. Clean colors in the design of rooms are almost never found, except in offices, cafes, clubs. Neutral and mixed colors are dominated in apartments and houses in the design, and bright are used in the focusing elements of the interior. Black, white, gray (with its shades) colors are added to them.
In the selection, most designers use a simple but effective tool – color circle.
How to choose the color
Colors for a combination are chosen depending on what kind of destination the room is to be issued. With the help of color, a visual increase or decrease in space is possible, creating in the room of comfortable and cozy conditions that contribute to a full-fledged rest. To avoid serious miscalculations, you must familiarize yourself with the basic rules of the combination of colors and the general design provisions.
This is not a simple process, but the use of color circle greatly simplifies the task of designers. You should always stick to one important condition: in one room for an optimal combination should be from 3 to 5 colors (no more!). Another indispensable condition – take into account all the elements of the interior (floor, ceiling, doors, plinth), as well as all furniture and decor items (paintings, curtains, lamps, vases, pillows, accessories) – literally everything is supposed to be placed in this room.
Currently, there are many color circles for various purposes and complexity. Of these, you can compile a wide variety of color combinations schemes. Here are the most common key schemes for the basic selection of color solutions using a circle.
- Monochrome (analog) – consists of three adjacent shades of one color in the color circle, visually perceived smoothly and calmly. Recommended for setting up a bedroom.
- Complementary (contrast) – consists of two different colors located in opposite sectors of the circle. Recommended for use in bathrooms and bathrooms.
- Triatic scheme Includes three colors to indicate in the circle of the vertex of an equilateral triangle inscribed in it, is considered a classic and the basis in design practice, the most common when making residential premises. If it fits not an equilateral triangle, then one of the colors with this choice is used as an accent.
- Polychromic – in a more complex color circle, rather than the basic, you can choose the right combination of four colors. Square or rectangle, inscribed in such a circle, will indicate tops on colors with a harmonious combination. In such a combination, one main color and two complements will be chosen, and the fourth will become focusing. The room with such interior will always look fresh and stylish.
There is a concept of complex combination of colors. This option is good with its versatility and consists of classic shades (white, gray, beige). Various color combinations of these tones will create a modern classic solution without the slightest risk, in which there will be no need to drastically change the interior when replacing furniture or other elements.
Interior options in various premises
Before choosing a color solution, you should pay attention to the way in which the windows are facing the light, which indoors are illumination, what is the function of the functionality (living room, bedroom, children’s, kitchen, hallway). Colors are combined by luminosity and saturation. This means that in the colors circle they must be located at an equal distance from the center of the circle. This distance characterizes the real physical properties of the color.
In the interior of the living room you can safely use the game of contrasting accepted accents. They will bring effect and vigor into style.
In large seating areas with windows to the north of the base of the interior, warm shades of natural gamma are selected, a cold palette is preferred in small – it is visually “expanding” space.
The muffled pastel tones of warm gamut will be suitable for the bedroom interior to create a relaxing and soothing atmosphere for a full-fledged comfortable stay. Sharp contrasting colors are undesirable. For an additional coziness, it is necessary to competently arrange accents with the addition of white and accessories.
When applying for children, it is important to consider several aspects: beauty and convenience, cheerfulness of style, functionality, recommendations of psychologists and designers for the selection of color combinations. In this room there are not only children, adults also often have to look after them. Designers advise choosing bright shades or take the basis of white, and on a light background competently place bright colorful accents from decor elements.
Such interior will be easy and air, which will cause positive emotions in children.
The design of the kitchen is best done in warm colors, as they improve appetite and add positive emotions, combined well with neutral colors. If the kitchen is located on the south side, instead of warm tones, you can take a combination of colder tones, such as brown and green, which will create additional notes of comfort and the feeling of approximateness to nature.
