All about vermiculite plates

Vermikulitis – breed of volcanic origin. The plates made from it are used as insulation and for other construction purposes. They are superior to a popular mineral wool in many properties and will soon take the first positions in the list of heat-insulating materials.

What it is?

Vermiculite, like any rock, has many impurities – aluminum, silicon, iron, magnesium, which enrich it with their presence. For construction purposes, the breed is treated at high temperatures (up to 1000 degrees), while it increases 25 times. It turns out a material that is called expanded (foamed) vermiculitis.

Along with granules and other types of backfings, the vermiculite PVTN plates are used in construction technologies. For their manufacture, foamed vermiculite composed of small fractions. In this way, the most heat-resistant insulation is obtained.

Plates are used not only for thermal insulation walls of buildings, they are necessary in any designs with a high coefficient of overheating or supercooling.

Characteristics and properties

Today, Vermikulitis is the most fire-resistant thermal insulator and at the same time harmless, it refers to minerals of natural origin, and there is nothing toxic in its composition.

The technical characteristics of the vermiculite depend on the placement location, but mainly the building material obtained from this breed has certain properties.

  • There is a thermal conductivity of the product.

  • Good refractory component, plates can be heated to 1100 degrees.

  • Materials are completely non-flammable.

  • Do not allow smoke.

  • Have high thermal insulation properties.

  • Plates have excellent deformation stability, even higher than perlite or clay. They are not compressed and not destroyed

  • Are a good sound insulation material, especially products with greater density, compressed to 20%. Due to the elasticity, they prevent the spread of sound waves.

  • Have high hygroscopicity, quickly absorb moisture, but due to the layered structure just as quickly and remove it, preventing the construction of rotting.

  • Plates are endowed with a flat surface, convenient to use in construction.

  • Vermikulitis does not rot, it is not attacking rodents, mold and bacteria.

  • Material has high ecological indicators.

  • He is much longer than basalt wool.

If we consider the material as a heater, in its thermal conductivity, it significantly exceeds such popular products such as clamzite, mineral wool, foam plastic. In this case, it helps the layered structure. And 3-layer plates in frame buildings are coping with frosts even in the northern regions.

Manufacturers of vermiculite slabs adhere to their standards, uniform guests are not provided for them.

You can find items on sale, the dimensions of which are in the interval from 600×300 mm to 1200×600 mm, thickness from 15 to 100 mm.

Scope of application

Having high thermal insulation, non-combustible and sound insulation properties, the material finds many places of application where it will be useful.

  1. In the construction of houses, vermiculite is used as the insulation of the walls, roofs, gender. It provides fire protection for the building, because it does not ignore, do not smoke and does not allocate harmful evaporation. Apartments in such houses are well protected from noise, which allows the neighbors to live quietly, without interfering with each other.

  2. Plates are used during the construction and finishing of baths, furnaces and fireplaces, to protect the walls in contact with the chimney.

  3. They insulate the attic.

  4. The material is a good insulating tool for pipes, gas ducts, boilers.

  5. It is used as a packaging material for the transport of fragile cargo.

  6. Vermiculite is used in steel production, for example, for the equipment of the vaulted Marten furnaces, to preserve heat losses.

  7. They are protected from fire cable tracks, wood structures and even reinforced concrete.

  8. Plates are used for insulation of industrial refrigeration cameras to save low temperature.

  9. As a strong sound-absorber, the material is used in insulating chambers for testing automotive and aircraft engines.

It is known that the plates from the vermiculite used in the construction of buildings help them in the hot climate to hold the coolness, and in cold – heat.

How to work with plates?

For construction vermiculite applies in granules and smaller fractions. But with pressed plates work more convenient. It is easy to cut and process the cutting tools, while it is used both manual and mechanical method.

Work with vermiculite is not considered harmful, according to GOST Material refers to grade 4, that is, low hazardous. Nevertheless, engaging a sharp slab, security equipment should be performed: protect the eyes and respiratory organs from building dust.

Here’s how the installation of the vermiculite occurs as a heater.

  • It is done by a piece of wall. It is better to perform it in the sizes of the plates, then they can be tightly installed without outsiders. If you can’t guess with the dimensions, the insulation is fixed on high-temperature glue or self-pressing.

  • The installed plates are coated with diffusion membrane as a waterproofing layer.

  • Then mounted facing.

In some cases, the plates from the vermiculite are directly covered with decorative lining or paint. Attics and other rooms in which this material was used, it is necessary to ventilate. With the right use of vermiculite plates, their shelf life is unlimited.

Although the material has been used for about 80 years, it is not so long in construction to the construction of the usual mineral wool and the clamps. Builders finally drew attention to its exceptional specifications, on its environmental safety, as it consists of absolutely harmless natural components.

Vermiculitis is suitable for the construction of houses and industrial facilities in all weather conditions, even with a complex temperature regime.
